“Appeal to your five senses” When you see Yasuko Iba’s works, you realize the true meaning of these words through your own eyes, brain, and heart. Her works, expressed with her eminent techniques and superior sensibility and sensitivity, transcend mere elaborate depictions of an object. Between the many layers of paint, exactingly brushed, you will find hte lights, shadows, air, smell, texture, temperature, sound, and fell of the object. They rise out the canvas to envelop you.

In “SENSE OF TOUCH”, we will show works from the eN arts collection as well as new works by Yasuko Iba. We would also like to inform you that selected works from “SENSE OF TOUCH” will be exhibited in Yasuko Iba’s solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura, begining from February 14, 2009. We hope taht you will enjoy feeling with your five senses through these amazing works.

I attempt to understand the textures around me by painting the spot where the texture exists and where the light is reflected light. In the ceramics I paint, I feel that the motif has a transparent texture held between the top and bottom layers of glaze. While ceramics pull the texture below the surface of the glaze, the texture of soft fabric remains above the surface with fluffy fibers, mingling with air, creating the image of airy texture. By choosing motifs with patterns and painting them together with the light, I can make the texture stand out so that, I think, one can see the feel of the texture.
