To me, “seeing” has a more profound meaning than mere vision. When I try to see my being on this planet through my five senses, images appear right before my eyes. These are what I paint.
For this exhibition, I have challenged myself to paint these images as close as possible to what I see, and in order to do so, I paint them on the back of the canvases. The paints, as they are absorbed immediately, themselves become the image I envision.
Keisuke Matsuda, born in 1984, graduated from the Kyoto City University of Arts with MFA (major: oil painting), lives and works in Kyoto. He recreates on canvas in bold brush strokes the unity of the earthly and extrasensory images formed at the edge of his mind. Matsuda’s works, at first glance, appear simply to be abstract creations while in fact they are the faithful reproductions of the images that he sees. Keisuke Matsuda’s faithfully pure collection of works returns the viewer to the very core of “painting.” Please enjoy SRAIGHTFORWARD.
